Catherine Malandrino’s “Quai De La Tournelle” Fall 2011 Collection is Parisienne glamour meets New York style with a modern 70s twist. Amidst an unfinished, brightly-lit loft, models stood on pedestals showing off the luxurious pieces which pleasantly contrasted with the almost run-down room.

Chiffon blouses, men’s inspired high waisted trousers in houndstooth print, floppy hats and chinchilla pieces were dispersed throughout the collection creating a casual elegance. Purple was a recurring color in the collection, and was accented by purple eye shadow and lilac nails.

The 70s style thick-framed glasses added a classy, nerdy touch to the theme of the collection. Basket-woven leather oxford heels and boots, designed by Malandrino, resembled vines growing on the shoe. Oversized totes marked with “Parisienne” or “New York” labels added a casual touch to the elegant designs.

A favorite was the sheer tank tagged “Parisienne” with high waisted print trousers and oversized hat with a long waist-length necklace. This look is for the Parisienne visiting New York in the summertime, even though it is supposed to be the Fall collection. Maybe this look isn’t exactly practical for the cold weather, and would’ve done better in a Spring/Summer collection.

A more dressy favorite was a purple gown with touches of satin and cinched at the waistline with a belt composed of several unique geometric shapes. An unlikely pair that worked very well.

One look that didn’t seem to flow well with the rest of the collection was a chinchilla coat with tights, which looks like any other fur coat. If this look was removed from the collection, it would be flawless. For more information on Catherine Malandrino and the upcoming collection, visit www.catherinemalandrino.com.
